Emm
A little while ago I was invited by a good Facebook friend to "sum myself up in 25 points" in order to present some sort of kaleidoscopic picture of myself to my friends online. I cringed inwardly - not my kind of thing, really, and to all intents and purposes I was convinced I would not play ball. I firmly believe that all humans are rather complex beings and no-one will ever show a 100% clear picture of themselves to the world, be that online or off-line. Peoples' individuality and idiosyncracies depend very often on the situation they find themselves in, their mental state, their age, to name but a few, and for instance in the case of our oldest son even the time of the day - his brain doesn't start to function until approximately one hour after he's woken up! A clear case of two different people...! ;-) We're all made up of so many different little pieces of "us" that co-exist in a constant interaction with external circumstances that I feel it's impossible to present one single authentic personality to the outside world. That does not mean that the person I portray outside my own four walls is not authentic; as far as I am concerned she is... To this day, I still don't know what made me relent to the request, but I did.
So here, in a nutshell, is the me I thought I would put out there, feeling comfortable with her - it has been a pretty daunting task, if you ask me! I must add here that since writing this personal resume I have "edited" a couple of things -only minor changes or additions, though. So, here we go:
I AM ME
1) I don’t really believe in this kind of “tell-me-about-you-pass-it-on-and-I’ll-tell-you-about-me” – it awakens demons in me that I prefer to keep locked up. So why the heck am I doing this...? You tell me!
2) Having said that, I believe we all evolve and change. Today I’m happy with the person I am, the me I have evolved into over the years. I feel comfortable with her and I have accepted her, warts and all.
3) I’ve never been bored in my life. I don’t know what boredom is, wouldn’t know how to describe it. Can’t understand kids today when they say: huhhhh, I’m bored! They must be aliens.
4) I’m full of contradictions – if I weren’t, I think I might find out what “boring” means. Don’t like the idea.
5) I'm curious, as in inquisitive and investigative. But I can also be curious as in eccentric and unconventional. I don't mind, though.
5) I am a gypsy at heart. The world is my oyster and I have no roots. I can be just as happy in a village in the mountains as I am in a village by the sea; the country does not matter much. I don’t like big cities – I take from them what I need and then get the hell out...
6) I need sunshine to thrive. So delete the cold countries from No. 5)! Cold makes me unhappy. I don’t "do" unhappy. And I hate snow.
7) I love music. And I love to sing. Badly; mainly in the car.
8) I love my freedom – freedom of thought, freedom of expression, freedom of speech... Freedom is a concept in my head. I believe that my personal freedom is only restricted by the shackles I impose on it myself.
8) I respect. I respect my family, my friends, my environment. The saying goes “Respect has to be earned”. Perhaps. But I’d rather believe if you show respect, in most cases it will come back to you.
9) Having said that, I don’t believe in VIPs – Very Important People. To me they are only People with Very Important Missions. And all too often they fail miserably... I do not respect them. I will treat a Road Sweeper with the same respect I would proffer a President; their job has nothing to do with it. (... and before you ask, yes, I have shaken hands with Presidents.)

I will treat a Road Sweeper with the same respect I would proffer a President; their job has nothing to do with it. (... and before you ask, yes, I have shaken hands with Presidents.)
10) I love nature and nature’s children, fauna and flora alike. I’m not particularly enamoured with snakes or spiders though, but (most) bugs are lovely. Mosquitoes don’t count.
11) I love people even though I believe that there are far more bad people than good ones. Much depends on one’s finer definition of bad. I can be bad. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like myself when I’m bad. My husband doesn’t seem to mind, though.
12) I’m forever picking up “lost souls” as my better half calls them. People who have lost direction, be that on the road, or be that in life. I’m not too sure I’m a qualified guide.
12) I don’t dwell on the past. What’s gone is gone. I try and learn from its lessons and make the most of today. Tomorrow is another day.
13) When I fall, I get up – always. I don’t give up in resignation, ever! Failure is the one word missing in my personal dictionary. And I love dictionaries.
14) I LOVE my family. The word “love” is totally inadequate to express what I feel for them. It’s unconditional. I want my husband to live forever – I’m selfish in that respect – and I want our children to grow wings to fly out there, into the big wide world and enjoy it as much as we do. In that respect Love means letting go. I accept that they are only on loan to me –to us- and I want them to feel the same freedom I feel. They will always have a safe haven with us, always.
15) I know I can still be happy when all around me things go wrong – happiness is a state of mind. I AM happy, yet many things have gone wrong...
16) I have a thing about books. I love reading and learning. Can’t get enough of it. Thank you Dad! You were my inspiration and will always be. I’m not too sure about the Kindle though...
16) I hate housework. Mmm... perhaps “hate” is too strong. I’ll settle for: I dislike it intensely. But I still try and do it with a smile. It’s got to be done, no?
Thank god for my better half – my perfect housewife!
Oh, where are you Salvator? (private joke)
17) My hands are wonderful tools. I love using them to make things. I have an artistic streak, so they say, but it looks like I need to get another life to develop it!
I hate knitting!
18) I don’t do Religion or Politics and prefer to stay out of discussions. I’ve crossed swords with them all too often in the past.
They lead to wars and brainwashing of the masses. I do believe in the Maker. Oh, and I also have a Parking Angel.
18) My favourite poem is Kipling's IF - I carry it in my handbag, along with half the household.
19) I love swimming. I’m sure in my previous life I was a dolphin. I’d like to believe that – it makes me feel good.
20) I’m lousy at maths. Full stop.
20) When I grow up I want to become a scientist. I want to save the planet. Oh, I forgot, I’ll probably need maths for that. Better not grow up...
21) I’m a vegan. By choice. I wasn’t always a vegan, but now I am. It sure makes shopping easier and I’m bursting with energy. What more could I want?
More time.
22) I love to ramble. Rambling is my middle name. I tend to forget time when I ramble. And also that most people aren’t really interested. Who cares...
23) I’m not perfect. But I’m married to Perfect.
24) I’m a rebel at heart. I rebel against anything and anybody imposing something on me. I’m not going to pass this on to 25 helpless victims. I’m NOT.
25) Told you I was lousy at maths and told you I was a rambler. But then I have other qualities. Wondering why I’m telling you this again...?
PS: I tend to bend rules: I managed the 25 points. Question is how! ...(pssst.... count them!!)
Keep smiling,
Emm - xxx
